Costco Internal Communications Plan
Client: Costco Wholesale
Strategic internal communications plan for Costco Wholesale, tracing the company's evolution and developing employee engagement strategies.
Overview
Developed a comprehensive internal communications plan for Costco Wholesale, one of America’s largest retailers. The project traced Costco’s history from Price Club’s founding in 1976 through the 1983 launch of Costco Wholesale in Seattle, the 1993 merger, and its current status.
Strategy
Created a multi-channel internal communications framework designed to maintain Costco’s famously strong employee culture as the company scales. The plan addressed challenges common to large retail organizations — inconsistent messaging across locations, shift-worker communication gaps, and maintaining company values during rapid growth.
Key Deliverables
- Internal communications audit and gap analysis
- Multi-channel messaging framework (digital, in-store, and leadership cascades)
- Employee feedback mechanisms and measurement KPIs
